A week before fight night, Dustin Lampros didn't have an opponent. His original matchup fell out, Joe Penafiel said yes on seven days' notice, and Combat Night South Florida got the main event it deserved: fifteen hard minutes at Gulfstream Casino that Dustin Lampros won on all three scorecards, one calf kick and one takedown at a time.

Penafiel made him earn all of it. "He's never out of a fight. Never," Mitchell Chamale said from the fence, watching Penafiel work his way back in again. And when it was over, Lampros used his first words as the winner to point back across the cage: "Make some noise for Joe P. He took this fight on a week's notice. He stepped up. He's game. He's a veteran." It was Lampros's first pro fight on a Combat Night card.

The rest of the pro card barely made it to the scorecards. Six of eight fights ended early: back-to-back first-round arm-triangles from Johann Budel and Daniel Wyatt, a guillotine Dylan Sawyer walked himself into and Mohamed Eissa refused to let go of, and a heavyweight bout that lasted exactly ten seconds, João Fonseca putting away Duane Crespo before most of the building had finished reacting to the walkouts. The amateurs came for belts. Juan Cruz walked in a perfect 8-0; JC Sanjuan tripped him to the mat, stayed on top of him, and walked out the lightweight champion. Brenda Games spent stretches of her title fight attacking armbars off her back and won the women's strawweight belt over Nomie Arellano after three full rounds. Four more amateurs won by first-round knockout, none faster than Chase Lasater's fifteen seconds at heavyweight.

Before the night closed, Mitchell pulled Luis "The Stache" Hernandez in front of the mic and asked what it felt like to be back. "It feels amazing," said Hernandez, who is 7-0, owns the fastest knockout in professional MMA history, a one-second finish that happened in this same building, and is about to get his shot on Dana White's Contender Series.

The broadcast booth signed off the only way this card allowed: "A great night of finishes. Top to bottom."

Combat Night is back August 1 in Tallahassee, and August 8 in Kissimmee.
