Luis Hernandez got the call with two days to get ready. On Saturday night at the Meta APEX in Las Vegas, he needed less than a minute. The Combat Night alumnus submitted Sedriques Dumas in the first round of his UFC debut and took home a Performance of the Night bonus, less than two weeks after earning his contract on Dana White's Contender Series.
Giving up size, taking the fight to him
On paper, very little favored Luis. Dumas stands 6'2" to his 5'9" and had five and a half inches more reach. He had nine UFC fights behind him. Luis had none, and two days' notice.
None of it showed. He didn't look like a fighter who had just taken a fight on two days' notice. He came forward from the opening bell, and the first left hand he threw landed. He closed the distance into the clinch, and after a short trip to the mat he locked up the guillotine as they wrestled back to their feet. He squeezed, and Dumas tapped.

A signature finish
The guillotine is becoming his calling card. He finished a fight the same way in June 2025, with a guillotine in the second round. And after the tap came the celebration that goes with it: his trademark D-Generation X crotch chop, a throwback to the old WWF.
A Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office deputy with a mustache, a guillotine and a wrestling-era celebration: the UFC has a new character, and on Saturday he made it official. A Performance of the Night bonus in his first UFC fight is how stars get started. He's still undefeated.

From our cage

Before Las Vegas, Luis fought for us, in our cage in South Florida. That's what Combat Night is for: giving fighters the chance to get out there and make something of themselves. Watching Luis take that chance all the way to a UFC win is exactly why we do this.
We're proud of you, Luis, and we're behind you all the way. His Combat Night fight film and record are on his fighter page.
